SRA Intervenes in Hunter’s Solicitors-Firm Shut Down, Three Solicitors Suspended

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has intervened in Hunter’s Solicitors LLP, a multi-office Home Counties firm headquartered in High Wycombe and operating across ten locations under several trading names – including Franklins Solicitors, Batemans, Colemans, and Grower Freeman. The intervention followed suspicion of dishonesty on the part of the firm’s compliance officer for finance and administration.

Three solicitor-managers – Angelo Luiz-Barrea, Christopher Stocker, and Howard Rind – have also had their practices suspended for alleged failure to comply with SRA rules, though no dishonesty is alleged against them personally. Midlands firm Shakespeare Martineau has been appointed as the intervening agent and is contacting affected clients.

The closure follows a £24,820 fine issued to Hunter’s in April 2025 for serious breaches of anti-money laundering regulations, including the absence of a firm-wide risk assessment for over three years. It is the second intervention into a multi-office firm in as many months, coming shortly after the SRA closed PM Law Group.

If you are a client of Hunter’s Solicitors or any of its associated firms and need guidance, or if this news raises concerns about your firm’s own regulatory compliance, we can help.
