Is Your Firm Ready For Its SRA Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Submissions?
– David Green
It is time to start preparing for the submission to the SRA in relation to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
The last time the SRA requested Firms to complete the equality and diversity questionnaire was in 2023. As it is performed on a two-year cycle, the SRA has now confirmed that all firms will be required to make their submissions in the summer of this year.
To assist with preparation, the SRA have released the questionnaire and additional guidance notes here.
Alternatively, see below for a summary of what is most essential.
How Can Regulation and Compliance Office Help You?
Regulation and Compliance Office has worked with multiple Firms in the past to assist with the preparation and submission of their response. This year, to assist and support Firms, we are able to perform the following:
- We have designed an interactive online solution that your firm can access to provide your staff an easy way to complete the questionnaire. The system will allow the firm to upload its employees, engage with them to complete the questionnaire and chase them if necessary. When completed, it will pool the data, ready for submission to the SRA.
- We will assist you with engagement with staff; generally, by encouraging them to complete the questionnaire and ensuring all data is protected.
- We will work with you to analyse the output, identify any issues that may arise, and work further with you on solutions.

Don’t Get Lost in the Spreadsheet: Why Legal Bookkeeping Needs Specialist Attention in 2025
In 2025, law firms are being held to a higher standard than ever when it comes to managing client money. Regulatory scrutiny is rising, audit expectations are sharper, and clients are asking more questions about where and how their funds are being handled. And yet, too many firms are still relying on spreadsheets to manage their day-to-day bookkeeping.
For legal cashiers and bookkeepers, this presents a serious challenge: how do you ensure precision, compliance, and peace of mind when the tools you’ve been given are prone to human error?
The Everyday Pressure on Legal Bookkeepers
Legal bookkeeping isn’t like ordinary bookkeeping. It comes with an extra layer of responsibility, especially when it involves the handling of client money. Every transaction must be carefully recorded, reconciled, and checked against the Solicitors Accounts Rules (SARs). Deadlines are tight, and accuracy is non-negotiable.
Legal cashiers are often the first to spot issues in a firm’s finances—whether it’s a ledger that doesn’t balance, a delay in transferring funds, or a potential breach of the SARs. But without the right support, they’re expected to perform complex tasks while juggling manual processes, chasing paperwork, and deciphering half-complete notes.
Spreadsheets, for all their flexibility, weren’t designed for this level of responsibility. One miskeyed figure or incorrect formula can go unnoticed until the auditor spots it—and by then, the damage is done.
The Cost of Getting It Wrong
The consequences of bookkeeping mistakes in a law firm are serious. Mismanagement of client funds—even when accidental—can lead to SRA investigations, financial penalties, and reputational harm. For the cashier, it can mean enormous stress. For the firm, it can mean a breakdown in client trust.
In many firms, the issue isn’t capability—it’s capacity. Legal cashiers are capable professionals working with limited time and sometimes outdated processes. They’re not just balancing the books; they’re holding the financial integrity of the business together.

How Law Firms Are Accelerating Firm Efficiency with Microsoft Power BI
How Law Firms Are Accelerating Firm Efficiency with Microsoft Power BI
Law firms rely on vast amounts of information, from time tracking, department performance, client accounts and WIP, to compliance and risk management; these are all crucial insights that are the lifeblood of any legal practice. However, here is the reality – most firms are hindered by messy or complicated data.
If you are relying on multiple data sources, scattered across time tracking systems, case management systems, accounts software, compliance tools, and manual spreadsheets, how efficient is this information, and is it truly working for you?
That is where Microsoft Power BI comes in–and where Aquarius Reporting provides a strategic advantage.
Power BI isn’t just about charts and dashboards – it accelerates reporting capabilities
When implemented properly and utilised to its full potential (and that is the key), it becomes a strategic tool that is helping law firms and their partners:
- Identify struggling or over-resourced practice areas
- Pinpoint the most profitable clients – not just by revenue, but by case efficiency vs value generated
- Assist compliance supervisors with spotting compliance gaps
- Understand who are the top performers and who needs support
- And much more…
Our team includes highly skilled data scientists, but you don’t need to be one to benefit from Power BI. When configured correctly by legal reporting specialists like Aquarius, Power BI delivers clean, intuitive, future-proof dashboards tailored to your specific KPIs.
One Version of the Truth
Our reporting solution, designed specifically for law firms, ensures that the information you are seeing is accurate and accessible, in a format you will actually use. Aquarius eliminates the hassle of navigating through clunky or inconsistent reports and avoids the frustrations of consolidating data from outdated Excel files.

A Signal for Change – Why Choosing Law Software Must Involve the Whole Firm
In 2025, the world watched as white smoke rose above the Vatican. A new Pope had been chosen. The announcement, rooted in tradition and collective decision-making, was the result of careful consideration and full participation by every member of the conclave.
This process, though centuries old, holds a valuable lesson for today’s law firms, particularly when it comes to selecting new software. The decision to invest in legal technology is not just an operational one; it’s a strategic step that affects the entire firm. And just like the conclave, it should be a collaborative process that considers the input of everyone involved.
A Decision That Reaches Beyond Leadership
Too often, the decision to adopt new law software sits solely with senior leadership or a small selection committee. While budget and compliance are critical considerations, they are not the only factors that matter. Fee earners, support staff, and administrators all interact with systems daily. Their feedback should be central to the decision.
The people working within the system every day are often the best positioned to identify inefficiencies, friction points, and limitations. When these voices are excluded, firms risk implementing a solution that fails to address the real challenges experienced across teams.
Technology decisions made in isolation may check certain boxes but often lead to poor adoption, frustrated staff, and a decline in productivity. Without widespread consultation, the chosen solution can feel imposed—something to be endured, not embraced.
The Impact of Exclusion
When law firms roll out new software without involving those who use it most, the result is frequently a lack of engagement. Workarounds become the norm, training sessions are met with resistance, and existing problems remain unresolved under a new interface.
This disconnect can have lasting effects. Poor user experience leads to inefficiency, low morale, and a culture of workaround solutions. Over time, the gap between leadership expectations and day-to-day reality widens.
The cost of this misalignment is not always immediately visible, but it is significant. Delayed work, manual duplication, and frequent re-training all erode the intended return on investment.
Collaboration Leads to Stronger Outcomes
The process of selecting new law software should be structured, inclusive, and informed. Engaging a cross-section of staff—across departments and levels—helps ensure that the decision is fit for purpose across the entire firm.

FireTap Legal
Put Some Fire into Your Blogs
Firetap’s Top Tips for Law Firm Copywriting
A task I am frequently engaged with when handling my clients’ digital marketing is preparing blogs and articles for their respective websites.
Having a News/Blogs section on your website is imperative for businesses looking to improve and expand on their digital marketing, and in a cyber environment where the competition is continually stiffening, having as many tools possible in your SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) arsenal is a must.
Regularly writing and publishing articles on your business’s website allows you to comment on trending topics. You can then saturate the copy with vital keywords and phrases that will help guide potential customers to your website. By having your say on local and trending news, you are giving your business a voice and a greater online presence.
When creating content for clients, I usually (and recommend) aim for a mixture of community-related news and developments relevant to their respective businesses. This will allow your business the space and opportunity to further demonstrate its expertise and position itself as an authority in key service areas.
Why should your business write and publish blogs?
Every time you write a blog post, it’s one more indexed page on your website, which means another opportunity for you to show up in search engines and drive traffic to your website. New blog posts act as a cue to Google and Bing, telling them your website is active and that they should frequently check back for new content.
What is SEO, & Why is it important to your law firm?
Now, it’s time to get technical. Search Engine Optimisation is a method of enhancing a website’s visibility in organic search results for search engines. Improving your firm’s site’s visibility helps it rank higher in search engine results pages (SERPs) for specific keywords or search terms.
The goal of SEO is to drive more traffic to a website from search engines without paying for advertising.
- Keyword Research:
Identifying the terms prospective users are using when searching for related services is a must. By understanding the specific keywords your target audience is using, you can match your copy content, enhancing its visibility and targeted traffic.
